fancy doll dresses

fancy dresses, heirloom details ...for the dolls you love to dress

My grandmother, Louise Mason Gallagher

When asked about the source of my inspiration to sew for dolls, it is Louise Mason Gallagher, my maternal grandmother, who comes to mind first. Nana, as we called her, sewed finely detailed doll clothes for my sister and myself when we were little. Indeed, both of our grandmothers shared their love for dolls and their skills in needle arts with us during our formative years. When we were old enough, the women in our family provided loving tutorials in all aspects of sewing.

As the dream to start evolved, Mother recalled the dresses that Nana had created for her dolls when she was a little girl. Details such as dainty smocking, fine embroidery, and doll-sized pockets intrigued me. The dresses that have survived various moves and the passage of time have become prized possessions and sources of inspiration.

As founder and chief doll costumer of , I am finally able to acknowledge the profound inspiration I inherited from growing up in a family of artists. Appreciating art, participating in art, and being comfortable with art evolved naturally from this upbringing. However, until 2005, I felt unsure what my medium was meant to be. Among the varied disciplines I have studied include watercolor painting, ceramics, glass blowing, needlework, graphic design, writing, and photography. As a result of being raised in a family of artists, I was guided to develop an instinctive appreciation for color, order, precision, and quality.

www..com is the online extension of my sewing studio in Millbrae, California. With , I hope to preserve the tradition of designing and creating fine garments for collectible dolls passed on to me by the women in my family.
